Prescribing Controlled Substances

Your prescription management platform provides you with the ability to prescribe controlled substances for your clients. As federally controlled substances, these products come with additional warnings and verification.

Prescribing Notices

While prescribing, you will be notified via SmartScribe if your client does not have a birthday saved or is not over the age of 21 (the legal age to receive controlled substances by mail). You will not be required to enter that information to proceed and your client will have the ability to enter it at checkout.

After submitting the prescription, you will receive additional information about what happens next.

Verbal or Fax Consent

At this time, an electronic authorization lets your client know that they need to purchase the product, but is not sufficient to release it from the pharmacy if controlled. For prescriptions without a verbal or fax authorization on file, you will receive a call at the practice.

If you'd like to expedite the process, you can call (888) 280-2221 to complete the authorization at the time that works best for you.

Practice Check Out

If you are checking out a customer via Practice Pay, you will once again be prompted for the client's birthday, as well as their Driver's License number. If you do not have this information, you can leave the fields empty. Know that if any information is missing it could delay the order and your client will get a call.
