Compounded Soft Chews: "Use By" Date Changes to Flavors and Active Ingredients

Covetrus compounded soft chew offerings are changing. The "use by" or "best before" dates of some flavors and some medications in these soft chews are being shortened as we change our preservative to provide a higher quality product.

Flavor changes

Flavors changing to a 30-day "use by" date are peanut butter and salmon. We continue to offer beef, chicken, liver and seafood flavors with extended 180-day "use by" dating. 

Pet-owners/clients who have set up AutoShip for an impacted flavor will receive a direct email with instructions on how to change flavors on their AutoShip. 

No action is required at the practice level for flavor changes. Affected pet owners will receive their email with instructions in February 2021.  

Active ingredient changes

Please contact your Covetrus Account Manager at your convenience to identify any of your clients' prescriptions affected by changes in active ingredients.

Clients who have a prescription for an impacted active ingredient will need to receive a new prescription from the veterinary practice. (For example, switching dose form from a soft chew to a liquid.)  

Action required: Please contact your Account Manager to determine if any of your practice clients have this situation and create a new prescription. The pet owner will then be able to see and order the new prescription in the Vet Recommendations section in their account. Pet owners will also receive an email with instructions in February 2021.  

If your practice has four or more prescriptions with changes, your Account Manager will be reaching out to review any needed changes with you.

Your pet has a prescription that will be impacted by this change. To keep the ordering of essential pet medications easy, seamless and efficient, you will need to take the following actions:  

{Pet owners will be shown one of the following lists of actions regarding their pet's prescription change.}

Flavor change + AutoShip:  

  1. Your original AutoShip order has been cancelled.   
  2. When you are ready for your next dose, sign in to your account.
  3. Place a new order with an available flavor.  
  4. Don’t forget to set up your AutoShip preferences to make sure your pet never misses a dose. 

Active ingredient change + Autoship:  

  1. Check your Vet Recommendations in your account.  
  2. If you do not see a new vet recommendation, contact your veterinarian and ask for a new prescription.  
  3. Once your veterinarian authorizes the new prescription, you will receive an email. 
  4. When you are ready for your next dose, follow the ordering steps and don’t forget to set up your AutoShip preferences to make sure your pet never misses a dose.  

Active ingredient change + no Autoship:  

  1. Check your Vet Recommendations in your account.  
  2. If you do not see a new vet recommendation, contact your veterinarian and ask for a new prescription.  
  3. Once your veterinarian authorizes the new prescription, you will receive an email. 
  4. Follow the ordering steps to complete. Don’t forget you can set up AutoShip for this prescription to make sure your pet never misses a dose.
